Glass box with Mercury - Harrachov, 1860s
Glass box with the head of Mercury made in the so-called "ancient style" in the Harrachov glassworks in the New World in the 1860s. At that time, the glassworks responded to English production. The ancient style in Harrachov glass culminated around 1865. A large part of these products were also intended for the English market.
It is a white opal glass blown into a mold, painted with a matte blue enamel, decorated with a drawn gold line and painted on the lid with colored enamels with the theme of a winged male head from profile (god Mercury). Franz Veith and Vincenz Tietz were specialized painters of ancient heads in the Harrachov glassworks.
The condition is excellent.
