SOLD - Baroque goblet with engraving of cupid

nz.187.24.42

Glass goblet from the Baroque time period, from the first quarter of the 18th century from Central Europe. It is a type of goblet with a funnel-shaped dome and a balustraded leg with sealed ruby threads. The body of the vessel is cut with an allegorical theme of a cupid releasing a winged heart and a vine.

The goblet is in excellent condition considering its age, with no chips or cracks.

Technologically similar vessels made of clear colourless glass and with ruby threads were produced around 1700, for example in South Bohemia in the Vimperk region (see the last photograph, taken from the publication Černovská Jana, Mergl Jan, Collector - Lann's glass collection, Museum of Decorative Arts in Prague, 2022, p. 74).
