Long gold chatelaine with medallion - early 20th century
A long chatelaine chain – originally designed for a pocket watch but now wearable as an elegant necklace – was crafted in the first two decades of the 20th century in Austria-Hungary. The goldsmith used 14k rose gold, which was popular at the time. The locket, which can be opened, is set with a natural ruby weighing 0.08 ct.
The chain bears Viennese hallmarks from the Austro-Hungarian period, while the pendant is stamped with a Prague import mark.
The piece retains its original spring ring and clasp. The smooth surfaces of the pendant show signs of frequent wear, including minor dents and surface scratches.
