Vlastimil Rada studied with professors M. Švabinský, J. Preisler and J. Štursa at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague, then worked as a professor in a special painting school, later leading a graphic school. He devoted himself to landscape painting and figural creation, book illustration and caricature. He professed the values of the domestic tradition of Josef Mánes and Mikoláš Alš. He emphasized the archaic character in realistic rural motifs, striving to express the myth of home. In the first half of the 1930s, he returned to the color scale of brown, gray and green.
