Gold Second Rococo brooch with natural gemstones
Brooch made of 17k gold (Au 700/1000) is shaped into rich neo-Rococo ornaments. All the gemstones are natural - the central pink tourmaline weighing 1.34 ct is flanked by two rubies weighing 0.15 ct each and six emeralds with a total weight of 1.80 ct (emerald cut 2× 0,40 ct; cushion cut 1× 0,30 ct, 2× 0,25 ct, 1× 0,20 ct).
It's a typical work in the style of the so-called Second Rococo (Rococo Revival), which became prominent in the 1840s in Central Europe. We date this particular piece to the mid-19th century.
The eyelet at the bottom of the brooch was originally used to hang a long chain for a watch or other small items, or a pendant. Upon request, we can remove the eyelet or add a pendant.
Like most of the production of that time, the brooch is unmarked, but the fineness of the metal is confirmed by a certificate issued by the Assay Office.
