Silver bowl with oak leaves and acorns
Silver bowl with a floral moulded body and a rim lined with embossed oak leaves and acorns. The bowl bears the manufacturer's mark of the J. E. Caldwell Co. The base of the vessel there is an engraved monogram, probably the initials of the original owner.
James Emmett Caldwell (1813-1881) founded a jewellery company in 1839 in Philadelphia, USA, under the name J.E. Caldwell & Co. The company was a major seller of jewelry and silver in the Philadelphia market. The company gained a national reputation through awards won in competition with leading silversmiths in the United States, producing silver services for battleships and cruisers of the U.S. Navy. In addition, the company designed many public monuments and trophies for important meetings and parades held in Philadelphia.
Supplemented by a certificate from the Czech Assay office.
