Lot silver spoon - year 1820, Austrian Empire
A soup spoon made of silver with a fineness of 13 lots (812.5/1000). It was hallmarked in Prague in 1820 and most likely originates from the workshop of the renowned Prague silversmith Antonín Kába (1787–1832), marked “AK”. It also bears a tax mark “TF B”.
The “TF” (Taxfreistempel) tax mark was a state hallmark for silver items used in Austria between 1810 and 1824, replacing all previous surcharge and exemption marks. On larger items, this mark included the control letter of the local assay office – in this case, the letter “B” for Prague.
Considering its age, the spoon is in excellent, near-unused condition. Four pieces are available (some have a natural patina, which we will be happy to polish upon request).
