Purple, purple, and more purple. It is the color of church dignitaries and kings, as well as the second month of the year and a year full of twos. It is the purple amethyst that is the gemstone of February and also the gemstone of St. Valentine. The purple-blue shade of Very Peri was chosen by the American company Pantone Color Institute for the year 2022. So, our article can only be in a purple spirit.

 
“A periwinkle blue shade with a purple-red undertone.” For many of us, this description of the color of the year 2022, selected by the American company Pantone Color Institute, might evoke a feeling of discomfort. After all, when we hear the word "periwinkle," we picture a dirty, murky green-brown pond. But in reality, the color periwinkle is actually the blue-purple Very Peri. Periwinkle is the older name for the periwinkle plant – a beautiful herb with blue-purple flowers. Its Latin name is Vinca minor, and its English name is periwinkle, from which the name Very Peri originates.

Amethyst – The Stone of St. Valentine

Amethyst is the gemstone of February, and February is the month of love. Exactly in the middle, on February 14, we celebrate St. Valentine's Day – the patron of love, who according to legend wore a ring with an amethyst engraved with the god's image.
 
How did the amethyst get its name? It comes from the Greek word ametusthos, which can be translated as “not under the influence of alcohol.” The ancient Greeks believed that amethyst would protect them from poisoning, drunkenness, and excess – they often placed amethyst in their cups. Oddly enough, according to Greek myth, the amethyst gained its color when the god of wine Dionysus poured wine over a previously clear crystal. In reality, this type of quartz gets its color from a combination of iron and aluminum impurities.
 
The stunning amethyst boasts a wide range of purple shades – from light lavender to deep purple. The rarest is the dark purple with blue reflections, known as the Siberian amethyst. Less common is the ametrine – a stone with a combination of purple and yellow shades. It is a natural fusion of amethyst and citrine within a single crystal. The more pronounced the color transition, the more valuable the stone.
