Austro-Hungarian gold ring with carnelian intaglio
This substantial ring made of 14k rose gold with a smooth band and a head decorated with motifs resembling Etruscan style (Etruscan Revival) is set with a carnelian intaglio (a gemma cut into depth). The intaglio depicting a man with what appears to be a Rococo wig is older than the ring and shows slight wear, with two chips on the lower edge that are almost imperceptible to the naked eye.
The ring is a relatively early Austro-Hungarian work, stamped with the "fox" hallmark and an unidentified master's mark.
