Glass cup with Madonna - early 20th century
A heavy goblet made of clear colorless glass at the beginning of the 20th century. The figural cut composition comes from the popular and widely copied painting with the theme of the Virgin Mary, Baby Jesus, and St. John the Baptist, "Madonna della Sedia" from 1514 by Raffaello Santi (1483-1520), which can be seen in the last photo. On the other side, we find the inscription "Zum Andenken" (In memory).
There are slight scratches on the base and upper edge of the glass caused by normal use, but otherwise it is in excellent condition.
Souvenir glass
From the first half of the 19th century, glass goblets and cups decorated to the customer's direct order were very popular gifts and souvenirs. These were individual gifts for names, birthdays and other personal or family anniversaries. Sometimes, instead of the monogram, only the universal inscription ANDENKEN (In Reminder) etc. was engraved.
