nz.188.24.08

Porcelain figurine from the series "Children with mottoes" made in the 19th century by the famous porcelain factory Meissen in Germany. Cupid standing by a circular pillar holding an arrow in one hand and a jug over two hearts in the other. The inscription (motto) on the base is in French 'Je blesse et soulage' ('I hurt and I heal'). The polychrome painting has gilded details.

The company used the marking underneath the statue from 1815 until the beginning of the 20th century. This model was designed as early as 1777 by Michel Victor Acier (*1736 - †1799), marked with the model number "F 14" from below the statue. It comes from the "Children with Mottos" series, which depicts cupids as children taking care of hearts, with mottos or phrases on the base.
