Austro-Hungarian gold pendant with diamonds - 19th century
An elegant pendant made mainly of gold, with the upper part featuring stones made of silver. The jeweler has set natural diamonds with a total weight of 1.50 ct into the rich pattern. Two old European cut diamonds weighing 0.16 ct and 0.14 ct have a color range of F-G and a clarity of VS2-SI. Other rose cut diamonds of various sizes cover the entire surface of the jewel. The pendant dates from the last third of the 19th century and was hallmarked in Vienna after 1872 with the Austro-Hungarian hallmark for 14k gold. The bail also bears a less legible maker's mark. With its neo-Rococo style, the jewel follows on from the jewelry of the previous century, when bows and similar romantic motifs or floral decorations, always combined with a large number of stones, were particularly popular.
An example of beautiful artistic craftsmanship.
