SOLD - Flexible gold onyx bracelet - 19th century
This unusual flexible bracelet made of 14k rose gold is made of hollow links connected by rivets, so it can be stretched by about 10 centimetres. The decorative part consists of an onyx plate in a florally decorated frame.
These bracelets were popular towards the end of the 19th century and were made in gold, silver and doublé. They can be found in period catalogues, such as the one pictured here from the early 20th century. However, due to the nature of the jewelry, not many of these have survived and they appear on the market less than other types of bracelets.
Our piece is marked with the ‘585’ fineness number and a valid Austro-Hungarian ‘AV’ hallmark for foreign goods, which was used since 1872.
Overall, the bracelet is in excellent condition, the last photo shows one historic yellow gold repair to the inside, which in no way affects its functionality or aesthetic value. The bracelet springs perfectly and fits well even when expanded. We would like to point out that the inner circumference of the jewel is very difficult to measure, but it reaches a length of approximately 24 centimetres (maximum).
