Silver spoons with evangelist motif

nz.093.23.05
Set of four large spoons made of silver (purity Ag 925/1000). The scooping part of the spoons is decorated with gilding, while the end of the handle has a detailed figure of the Evangelist Luke. The spoons were hallmarked in London in 1916. Their maker was David Landsborough Fullerton, the spoons bearing the maker's mark 'D.F'. However, they were sold by Fattoriny & Sons, the inscription inside the original case.

Silversmith David Landsborough Fullerton worked for Josiah Williams & Co. who were the largest silver manufacturer in England outside London, Birmingham and Sheffield.

Fattoriny & Sons was founded in the north of England in the 1820s by Italian goldsmith Antonio Fattorini as a dealer in jewellery and smaller items. The name and brand were later taken over by his sons. At the end of the 20th century the company was renamed Thomas Fattorini Ltd. after the current owner of the company, Thomas R. Fattorini (born 1960, 6th generation), and received Royal Warrants of Appointment from Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II in 2008. During its operation, the company's main focus was on the design and production of awards, trophies or medals with enamels. During the First World War the company produced badges for the armed forces, including the Royal Air Force badge. Today it produces trophies for major events such as the FIFA Club World Cup.
