This large mohair Steiff bear, which is exceptionally well preserved, was manufactured by Germany's most famous toy company before 1933, probably during the interwar period. There are remnants of a white tag under the button, which was used until 1926. However Steiff was often making use of older buttons and tags so the production period of this bear cannot be determined with certainty. This model was sold between 1908 and 1933 in 14 sizes, of which this one, 43 cm sitting and 60 cm standing, is the largest.

The caramel-colored mohair bear (a later brand name for this gray-brown shade) stuffed with wood wool (excelsior) is in a completely original and exceptionally well-preserved condition: the mohair is nearly 100% without any bald patches, the button in ear with "the underscored ff", complete stitches of the nose and all four claws on all limbs, original belly stitch, backpainted glass eyes and felt paw pads, of which only the one on the right hand has minor damage - considered normal for toys of this type and does not need repair. The stuffing in the upper limbs is slightly compressed, but not completely "broken" - which is also exceptional for bears of this size. There is a 0.5 cm tear on the edge of the bear's leg and paw, which we can have professionally repaired. The bear's growler is long mute.

The bear was gently hand cleaned to get rid of dust, otherwise no other intervention was needed.

Plate with a diameter of 3.9 cm made of silver ( fineness Ag 800/1000). It is marked with fineness number, maker´s mark and state hallmark used between 1929-1941.
