Gold bracelet with 22 charms, Czechoslovakia, 1930s - 20 cm - 52,000 Kč

A 1930s bracelet with 22 charms, including, for example, a three-dimensional mouse, a piglet, a tankard, a chamber pot, an enamel-decorated clock and bell, as well as a cottage, a four-leaf clover, a pistol, a bottle of whisky, a frog on a leaf, an elephant’s head, a heart and a chimney sweep made of rose gold, slippers, a ball, a little bird, or a cup inscribed “Luhačovice,” and a medallion reading “Good luck.” The bracelet links are decorated with relief ornamentation on both sides. The material is yellow 14k gold, stamped with the Czechoslovak “lion” hallmark (use between 1929-1949).

Good-luck tokens were especially popular in the interwar period, including the 1930s, when charm bracelets became fashionable personal accessories. These small symbolic pendants were believed to attract protection, prosperity, love, or success, while also serving as playful decorative elements. Motifs such as a four-leaf clover for luck, a chimney sweep for good fortune, a heart for love, or animals symbolizing strength and wisdom were commonly worn as miniature talismans. Beyond superstition, they reflected personal stories — each added charm could commemorate a journey, a spa stay, a romantic attachment, or an important life event. In this way, a charm bracelet from the 1930s functioned not only as jewelry, but as a wearable collection of wishes, memories, and identity.
